Designing an inclusive space for creatives, dreamers, and doers to connect and collaborate in Los Angeles.
Project Context
Role: Brand Designer and Community Art Organizer
Timeline: 2025 - present
Deliverables: Brand Identity, Social Assets, Event Production
Creative Community LA was established with a clear goal: to uplift local artists by providing resources and a space that inspires them. The challenge was to create a visual identity that didn't feel like traditional, rigid 'networking.' The brand needed to reflect a dynamic environment where interactive art workshops and live music intersect, communicating instantly that creatives of all mediums and experience levels are welcome.
Visual Identity
To reflect a welcoming ethos, the visual system is rooted in Los Angeles nostalgia. The identity blends 80s airbrush aesthetics with modern vaporwave for a retro, sun-drenched feel.
Typography: A bold, rounded serif font provides a human, approachable feel, directly contrasting with the sterile sans-serif fonts typical of networking events.
Color & Texture: An LA sunset palette of vibrant magentas, deep ocean blues, and warm oranges drives the brand. A consistent grain texture adds a tactile, 'lo-fi' quality that mirrors the hands-on, DIY nature of the art workshops.
Iconography: Playful elements like palm trees, sparkles, and waves ground the brand geographically while keeping the tone lighthearted.
System Flexibility
To keep the brand dynamic, the identity was built for maximum flexibility. The core system allows for distinct thematic variations without losing instant recognition.
For the October meetup, I adapted the primary assets by shifting to a spooky purple palette and swapping the sun for a moon, creating a fresh, event-specific flyer design that remains unmistakably Creative Community LA.
The Brand in Action
At its core, this brand is about bringing people together. These snapshots capture the visual identity out in the wild, translating from digital promotion to hands-on workshops across Los Angeles. It brings the colorful, approachable aesthetic directly to our local meetups, matching the exact DIY energy that inspired the design.
